- The four figures on the outside are a bull, a lion, an eagle, and a man.
- Each of them has with them a book.
- Each of them has wings.
- They rest on the clouds that frame the card.
- This could represent the four Gospel writers: Luke, Mark, John, and Matthew (respectively).
- The Inner “Wheel”
- Around the wheel is a devil-like canine figure.
- It looks like this figure is turning with the wheel (by the way its back is arched upwards)
- Another figure is the serpent.
- Temptation in Eden? Or knowledge?
- On top of the wheel is a sphinx holding a sword.
- The sphinx appears to have breasts—either androgynous or female.
- Interestingly, the sphinx (apart from its headdress) matches the colour of the sky, almost like it’s supposed to blend in.
